Happy birthday, Anna Maria Oyster Bars… Volume 6
This is shaping up to be an awesome month of celebrating… our Summer Reading Program is going so well! “Dive into Reading” is halfway complete and we’re having a blast with “our” kids this month. We’re looking forward to celebrating their graduations next week!
And more importantly, we’re looking forward to celebrating their reading scores at the end of the summer. A huge thanks to all our volunteers and all the kids… we’ll share more details after the program is complete, but in the meantime, here are a few photos from the Wednesday group of readers!
We’re real pleased to partner this month for “12 Cheers for 20 Years” with our friend Maverick Johnson of 92.1 CTQ Fame.
Mav started a foundation to honor his dad, Denis V Cooper. It’s called Wishes for Heroes. Similar to the Make-A-Wish Foundation granting wishes for children with terminal illnesses, Mav’s Foundation grants wishes to veterans…and as you all know, we love our Vets in our community! It’s because of their sacrifice that we’re able to live in such an awesome country! So we’re really happy to work with Maverick.
His Red, White & Brew fundraising event was last week and the AMOB Street Team served Peel & Eat Shrimp, Grandma Georgie’s Chipotle Oysters, and Tuna Sashimi to the crowd along with other area restaurants. What a great time! Check out photos from the event here.
Last month, the Denis V. Cooper Foundation helped fund a trip to New York City for John Seelie, a 94-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor… in fact, the last living survivor of the 25th Infantry Division that was assigned to Schofield Barracks at Wheeler Field.
He was the first Pearl Harbor Survivor to visit the National September 11 Memorial to salute all First Responders who gave their lives to help on 9/11. Click here for a truly amazing video from the National September 11 Memorial & Museum on John Seelie’s visit to NYC with representatives from the Denis V. Cooper “Wishes for Heroes Foundation.
