There are many theories to the beginning of America’s favorite sandwich dating back to the 1920s. One story suggests that Lionel Sternberger invented the cheeseburger while working at his father’s sandwich shop, The Rite Spot. During an experiment, he dropped a slice of American cheese on a hot, sizzling hamburger, and boom…America’s sweet, sweet sandwich was invented. There’s no clear indication when National Cheeseburger Day actually started, but we do know that we’ve been chowin’ down on it ever since the 1920s.
Now, on to National Drink Beer Day. We had no luck finding why it became a national holiday, but we’re glad it is and we are able to drink beer all thanks to…well, also no luck here. According to history.com, it’s difficult to attribute the invention of beer to a particular culture or time period, but the world’s first fermented beverages most likely emerged alongside the development of cereal agriculture 12,000 years ago. We don’t know who invented beer, we don’t know why it’s a national holiday, but we sure know why we’re going to celebrate…beer means friends, beer is variety, and beer means increased confidence (most of the time).
If you’re not a burger fan, take someone who is and steal their free margarita. If you’re not a beer fan, bring a friend who is and we’ll serve you somethin’ to your liking. See you at AMOB!
