Anna Maria Oyster Bar is overjoyed to announce that Cherise Sherwin, a staff member at the Landside Oyster Bar location, has been named the 2018 Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association’s “Restaurant Employee of the Year.” A wonderful member of the AMOB family for nearly twenty-one years (more precisely, since Day One at our Landside location which opened on September 15, 1997), Ms. Sherwin was honored for her hard work, dedication to the company, and generous spirit as a Hospitality Star of the Industry award winner. On Sunday, August 26 our community came together to show their support. It was absolutely incredible to see over 150 community members come out and show their support for the area and red tide research. The dinner benefited Mote Marine and Start (Solutions To Avoid Red Tide). We were welcomed with a beautiful evening on Anna Maria Island with a breathtaking sunset at The Sandbar Restaurant. Since 1997, we’ve been hosting a Longevity Trip to celebrate our awesome crew (really, they’re family to us). It’s our way of saying thank you for their hard work and dedication – and one way we like to show the team how valued they are. These amazing individuals have put in some pretty impressive years of tenure, too. On Sunday, August 5 we celebrated our team member, Carmello, for a milestone at AMOB… 2 million shucked oysters and counting! Carmello has been with us for over 18 years, so it was as good a time as any to celebrate this awesome fellow! It was a great time by all and also a perfect way to commemorate National Oyster Day! The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading received broad recognition at GLR Week in Philadelphia, the nation’s most significant convening focused on early learning, children’s health and well-being, afterschool and summer programs, and getting all children reading on grade level by the end of third grade — a key predictor of continued success in school and life. Members of the Suncoast Campaign were among the more than 700 thought leaders, educators and supporters of grade-level reading efforts nationwide in attendance. We had a fabulous group of visitors for lunch the other day! Our friends from PACE Center for Girls stopped by, along with the “winners” of their QUACKtastic Quacky Challenge. The PACE girls who earned 100% attendance during the month of June were invited to enjoy lunch with the “winners”. Big Brothers Big Sisters Breakfast

We were so happy to have the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America at our Landside location on August 26! This event had us reminiscing on Dive into Reading this past June, when elementary aged students and volunteers mentors joined us for a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Last week, we had about 15 kids, along with around 12 volunteers and staff join us in the morning for a special breakfast with reading time. Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is an invaluable asset for the youth in our community and we are so happy they came to visit us for breakfast!
